The accident happened about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday on Route 139, also known as Unity Road, and was probably weather-related, according to Maine State Police Trooper John Lacoste.

Ann’s SUV appeared to have slid across the road and into the lane of oncoming traffic, Lacoste said.

She was struck broadside by the truck, which was being driven by Michael Hogan, 31, of Bangor, according to a statement from Steve McCausland, spokesman, Maine Department of Public Safety. Hogan was uninjured, said McCausland.

The truck was hauling salt and is owned by Clisham Construction of Winterport, according to McCausland.

Maine Medical Center spokeswoman Mary Saucier said that, in general, it is not unusual for a patient to remain in critical condition for 24 hours or more.

At the time of the accident, road conditions were described as mostly wet with some slush and snow and only a slight danger of freezing, according to a state transportation official.
