LEWISTON — The six candidates for U.S. Senate in Maine must be getting tired of seeing each other.

They’re gathering at 5 p.m. Saturday for the third debate in three nights. The event at Lewiston Middle School marks the 11th debate appearance together for the three leading candidates.

University of Maine political science professor Mark Brewer says that’s a lot of debating. He says it’s more typical for there to be about three debates for high-profile races.

The candidates are vying for the seat that’s being left empty by U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe, who is retiring.

The six candidates are Republican Charlie Summers, Democrat Cynthia Dill and four independents, Angus King, Steve Woods, Andrew Ian Dodge and Danny Dalton.
