Incumbent Rodney L. Whittemore, R-Skowhegan, defeated David Schwanke, D-Norridgewock, in the Senate District 26 race by a 11,873 to 8,248 vote.
Whittemore won every community in the district including Fairfield 1,536 to 1,483; Madison 1,168 to 801; Norridgewock 818-732; and Skowhegan 2,257 to 1,453. The district ranges from Fairfield to Jackman in Somerset County and includes 20 other communities.
Whittemore, 65, said the top issue facing Maine today is the economy and it is going to take bipartisan efforts in the Legislature to have lawmakers put their own agendas aside and concentrate on what’s best for Maine people.
