SKOWHEGAN — More than 3,000 Maine high school students from 79 high schools will compete in the 79th annual Maine Drama Festival this weekend, including plays at Skowhegan Area High School.
Two winners from each regional will be selected to advance to the State Finals on March 19-20.
The scheduled line-up for performances at Skowhegan Area High School:
Session 1, Friday 7 p.m.
• Erskine Academy, performing “The Least Offensive Play in the Whole Darn World”.
• Mt. Blue High School, doing “TTYL”.
• Mt. View High School and “Grounded”.
Session 2, Saturday 1 p.m.
• Waterville High School performing “The Seuss Odyssey”.
• MCI and “Tuesdays and Sundays”.
• Winslow High School doing “Dragons”.
Session 3: Saturday 6 p.m.
• Madison Area Memorial High School performing “Turtles All the Way Down”.
• Skowhegan Area High School doing “The Cherry Orchard”.
The annual event is sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association and the Maine Drama Council. There will be nine separate regional competitions, during which schools will present plays ranging from the classics to original student-written plays.
Competitions are slated for Bangor High School, Thornton Academy, Leavitt Area High School, Skowhegan, Stearns, Rockland, Marshwood, Windham and Cony high schools.
The State Finals are slated for March 19-20. Class A competitions are at Camden Hills High School and Class B competitions are at Yarmouth High School.
All tickets are $7 adult $4 students per session. All proceeds benefit the Maine Principals’ Association. The MPA Drama Committee, the festival coordinators and the Maine Drama Council work together to produce the annual Maine Drama Festival and Competition.
