AUGUSTA — Authorities have charged a 33-year-old Sidney man who is suspected of being the getaway driver during a Capitol Street CVS pharmacy robbery that occurred Nov. 17.
Gabriel J. Roy made an initial appearance Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court, where a judge told him the robbery charge carries a maximum prison term of 10 years.
Deputy Chief Jared Mills, of the Augusta police, said Tuesday that Roy was issued a summons on the robbery charge Jan. 8.
He is the second person charged in connection with the robbery, and he was ordered to have no contact with co-defendant Daniel L. Nelson, 31, of Augusta, as well as the pharmacist who was robbed.
“We suspect he was the person that drove Mr. Nelson away from the scene,” Mills said of Roy.
Roy also is banned from being at any CVS pharmacy.
A judge set bail at an unsecured $2,500 bond and scheduled Roy’s next hearing for 10 a.m. April 23.
Nelson is being held in jail.
According to Augusta police reports at the time, a suspect — believed to be Nelson — walked into the pharmacy about 11 a.m. Nov. 17, threatened an employee at the pharmacy counter and was given oxycodone pills before he fled. No weapon was displayed and no one was injured, police said.
