VASSALBORO — About 70 residents approved the $1.8 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year at the annual Town Meeting on Monday.
The budget is an $89,470 increase from last year’s, with the majority of the increase coming from the purchase of a new tanker fire truck, which includes a first-year payment of $88,542.
Voters unanimously agreed to take up to $100,000 from the reserve fund to make up for any shortcomings in state municipal revenue sharing.
Vassalboro is supposed to receive $175,000 from the state, but Town Manager Mary Sabins said she anticipates $128,417 from revenue sharing, though said nothing is certain.
“We really need (Article 5) to pass for us to fill in the gap in state sharing,” Sabins said.
The town also appropriated $50,000 from the public works reserve account, plus an additional $34,000 from taxes, to buy a new $93,500 public works truck. The remaining money will come from the sale of a 2005 Ford truck the town currently owns.
The town also elected five members to the Budget Committee. Incumbents William Whitley, William Brown, Donald Breton and Lori Fowle were renamed, and Peggy Schaffer joined as the fifth member.
