Waterville pedestrian injured in Upper Main Street accident

STAFF REPORT

WATERVILLE — A Waterville man spent the afternoon in the hospital after he was hit by an SUV on Upper Main Street, according to police.

The accident was reported at around 12:30 p.m. near the driveway to the Comfort Inn.

Louis Rabassa, 80, of Green Road in Fairfield, driving an SUV, struck Jeremy Attaway, 23, of Silver Street, according to Waterville Police Sgt. Lincoln Ryder.

Rabassa pulled over and got out of the vehicle after striking Attaway, according to Waterville Police Sgt. Alden Weigelt.

"The driver did stop and talk to the pedestrian to see if he was OK," Weigelt said.

Weigelt said that after Rabassa got home, he called police to inform them of the accident. The investigating officer, Damon Lefferts, went to Rabassa's home in Fairfield to interview him and investigate the vehicle.

No charges will be filed against Rabassa.

Attaway was taken to Redington-Fairview Hospital by Delta Ambulance. He was treated for minor injuries and discharged late afternoon.

Weigelt said a woman who saw the accident from a distance called it into police as a hit and run, though after investigation, police didn't classify it as that.

Weigelt said a man confirmed that Rabassa stopped and talked with Attaway before driving off.
