Waterville to get airport funding

WATERVILLE —  Robert A. LaFleur Airport is one of 9 airports in Maine to receive funding from the Federal Aviation Administration for airport improvements, U.S. senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins announced Wednesday. The airports will receive a combined total of $4,582,551.
  “Maine’s aviation infrastructure keeps our residents connected with the rest of the country and the world,” Snowe and Collins said in a statement. “These funds will help local airports make the necessary upgrades and developments to improve air service and safety.”
 The money will be distributed as follows:
 • $171,552 for  the Waterville airport, for snow removal equipment.
 • $2,544,083 to Bangor International Airport for major improvements to its cargo apron
  • $130,000 for the Dewitt Field-Old Town Municipal Airport to purchase snow removal equipment
   • $200,000 to the Hancock County-Bar Harbor Municipal Airport to fund an updated airport master plan study
    • $109,037 for Greenville Municipal Airport for the installation of weather-reporting equipment
    • $860,175 to Knox County Regional Airport for the construction of a terminal building
    • $150,000 for Newton Field Airport in Jackman to fund an updated airport master plan study
    • $120,687 to Northern Aroostook Regional Airport in Frenchville to construct a snow removal facility
    • $297,017 for Northern Maine Regional Airport in Presque Isle for the purchase of snow removal equipment
