Waterville council considers bond, new chairman

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at The Center at 93 Main St. downtown.

Staff Report

WATERVILLE — City councilors Tuesday will consider approving up to $6 million in tax exempt bonds for improvements to Inland Hospital.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at The Center at 93 Main St. downtown. It will be preceded by a public hearing at 6:45 p.m. on the bond issue.

In other matters, councilors are scheduled to elect a council chairman. Erik Thomas, D-Ward 4, is the current chairman.

The council will consider a $15,576 contract with Pine Tree Engineering, of Bath, for engineering services and design for a road rehabilitation project for Drummond Avenue.

Mayor Karen Heck will recognize Mark Hamilton, a fire rescue technician who on Dec. 12 rescued a man trapped in the basement of a burning building, and fire Captain Michael Michaud, his on-scene commander.

Acceptance of a $10,000 speed grant from the Bureau of Highway Safety also is on Tuesday’s agenda.

The council will consider a waiver of foreclosure of a municipal tax lien for 23 Victoria Drive. The action would prevent automatic foreclosure on a 1974 mobile home, for which its owner owes $305.95 in taxes.

At best, the deteriorated mobile home would sell for about $800, according to a memo from City Manager Michael Roy to councilors dated Jan. 7. If the city were to take the home, it would have to be moved and if it stays in the mobile home park, the city would have to pay rent for the lot until the home was sold, according to the memo.
