WINSLOW — A Clinton Avenue man was arrested after police said he damaged several vehicles when he shot a BB gun at them and other passing cars from his attic window Wednesday night.

One car’s driver-side window was shattered, police said, while a windshield on another vehicle was chipped.

Demetrio Alexander Bautista, 20, of 94 Clinton Ave., was arrested Wednesday night after police said he admitted to shooting at moving vehicles because he was bored.

Police went to the corner of Clinton Avenue and Kidder Street about 9 p.m. after calls from two drivers who said their vehicles had just been hit by something. Police found nothing in the area that indicated who or what did the damage. About 45 minutes later, police received another call from a driver who said his driver-side window had been broken by something.

When the officers responded again, Sgt. Haley Fleming remembered seeing a BB gun during a previous visit to Bautista’s home on Saturday, which was in the vicinity of the incidents, Lt. Josh Veilleux said. Fleming was at the home Saturday for a bail conditions check for a woman at Bautista’s home.

When police returned to Bautista’s home, they found him in the attic, Veilleux said. The officers found a BB gun tucked away in the ceiling boards, Veilleux said.

Bautista admitted to sitting at home drinking Allen’s Coffee Brandy, being bored and shooting at passing vehicles, Veilleux said. He also had a a 0.10 percent blood alcohol content when tested by police, he said.

Bautista was charged with two counts of aggravated reckless conduct, a class B felony; two counts of criminal mischief, a class D misdemeanor and minor consuming alcohol, a civil offense. Bautista posted $6,000 unsecured bail and is scheduled to appear in Kennebec County Superior Court Jan. 14.

Two more drivers also reported damage to their vehicles at the same location, Veilleux said.
