FAIRFIELD — Police are investigating a report of a Wednesday home invasion on Norridgewock Road. A woman awoke early Wednesday when her dog barked, Fairfield Police John Emery said. When she got up, she saw a man in her kitchen, she later told police.
She left the residence, Emery said, and although she told a family member of the incident, she did not immediately call police. The family member then went looking for the alleged intruder, Emery said, and mentioned what had happened to a clerk at a nearby convenience store.
Fairfield Officer Paul St. Amand happened to stop around 5:30 a.m. at the convenience store “by chance,” Emery said, and the clerk told him about the possible home invasion.
“When the officer heard about it, he took it on himself to check on it and see if there was any truth to it,” Emery said.
Maine State Police Trooper Blaine Bronson arrived with a tracking dog, which followed the scent to a nearby residence, Emery said. “We do have a suspect, but no one’s been arrested, and we have reason to believe it’s not just a random act,” Emery said. “We have reason to believe that the person of interest is familiar with the homeowner.”
Nothing was taken from the residence. Detective Sgt. Kingston Paul also responded to the home.
