WATERVILLE -- A dodgeball tournament to benefit the United Way will be held Saturday at the Alfond Youth Center.
The fundraiser will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
It will benefit local people who utilize one or more of the 35 programs that United Way of Mid-Maine funds, such as the Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter and Kennebec Behavioral Health.
Twenty-four teams will compete in a double-elimination tournament for the coveted prize of 2010 Dodgeball Tournament Champions.
Thomas College student Ryan Ames, who is United Way of Mid-Maine's work-study student, came up with the idea of playing dodgeball and turning it into a fundraiser for the organization.
"Dodgeball doesn't take a lot of skill, but its great exercise, a whole lot of fun and promotes team camaraderie," Ames said, according to a press release.
Thomas College, Colby College, and KVCC all have student-volunteers playing in and refereeing the games.
United Way of Mid-Maine welcomes all to come and watch the tournament. There is no entry fee for spectators, and refreshments and raffle prizes will be available.
United Way of Mid-Maine serves northern Kennebec, Somerset, and western Waldo counties.
