AUGUSTA -- Two proposed promotions from within could fill out top Augusta school administrative staff positions, bringing the central office back to full staffing following departures earlier this school year.
The Board of Education meets Wednesday to consider hiring a business manager and a special education director. The nominees for both positions already work for Augusta schools in different positions.
Kathy Casparius, the school system's technology director and a 34-year employee of the city's schools, is the proposed new business manager.
Casparius holds master's degrees in business administration and computer technology education. She said in application materials the experiences she has had with students, parents, the Board of Education, teachers and others make her an excellent candidate.
The position has been vacant since December, when Karla Miller left for a different job.
Lynne Adams, the assistant special education director, is the nominee to become special education director.
If board members approve the move, Adams, a 29-year employee of Augusta schools, would replace Donna Madore, who was chosen as the new assistant superintendent in December last year.
The assistant superintendent position is a new position, taking the place of the former curriculum coordinator position, a job vacated by Tina Meserve last summer, who left for a job with another school system.
Casparius and Adams would join James Anastasio, interim superintendent, in the school system's central office. Anastasio was selected as interim superintendent after Cornelia Brown, superintendent for the last 13 years, left Dec. 31 to become executive director of Maine School Management Association.
Board members are scheduled to consider the nominations at their meeting Wednesday, which is scheduled to enter public session at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria at Capital Area Technical Center.
The meeting is scheduled to begin with a closed-door session to discuss personnel and labor negotiations at 6 p.m.
