New faces, same goals for Fairfield Town Council

FAIRFIELD -- The Town Council has undergone a significant membership change over the past year, but its goals will remain the same.

The council reaffirmed the same goals for 2013 that it had for 2012 with a unanimous vote Wednesday night.

The list of 23 goals includes a pledge to "review the current mix of public services and develop budget recommendations that protect the provision of essential services, set priorities, and emphasize the need for tax relief."

The goals are organized under six headings, which are tax relief; governance and accountability; communication and public relations; equipment, facilities and maintenance; planning and development; and intergovernmental collaboration.

The list of goals, which is also available on the town's website, include generating a quarterly town newsletter, working with the railroad to improve vehicle crossings, and talking with neighboring towns to find collaboration opportunities that could save mone.

The only change to the goals was the name. Based on a suggestion from Councilor Robert Sezak, the document name was changed to "Town Council Goals and Standards," which Sezak said more accurately reflects some of the listed items.

For example, one item states that "the Town Council supports fair, open and competitive bid processes."

Three of the council's five members were seated earlier this month after having been elected in November.
