Cambridge house fire ruled arson

CAMBRIDGE -- A house fire late Thursday turned out to be a case of arson, according to the Office of the Maine State Fire Marshal.

Sgt. Ken Grimes, with the office, did not know the name of the homeowner but said the fire at the one-story, occupied house at 614 Dexter Road was intentionally set.

Grimes did not have details but said police arrested Stacy L. Gourley, 43, of Harmony. He is being held at Somerset County Jail on a charge of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.

Gourley remained in jail late Friday afternoon on $20,000 cash bail.

Grimes said investigators were still determining what was used to set the fire, which started outside at the back of the wood frame house with attached garage.

The fire caused extensive damage, Grimes said.

According to the Somerset County radio log, Somerset County Sheriff's Office deputies and Maine State Police troopers started toward the fire between 10:40-10:45 p.m.

Cambridge and Harmony firefighters were then alerted shortly before 11 p.m. The fire marshal's office was dispatched to respond at 11:10 p.m.

Firefighters were on scene for several hours, while officers remained there until about 7 a.m.

On Jan. 24, Gourley was credited with pulling Sheldon Woodard, 71, away from the fire that destroyed his large garage in Harmony.

An effort to reach the lieutenant at the Somerset County Sheriff's Office was unsuccessful.
