AUGUSTA — Jim Rier, who has served as head of finance and operations at the Maine Department of Education since 2003, has been appointed deputy commissioner of the department.
Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen announced the administrative appointment today.
Rier will be responsible for managing the department's day-to-day operations, with a focus on financial transparency and accountability.
During his tenure, Rier has been responsible for implementing the school funding law, school facilities programs, and the school nutrition program.
“Jim has a depth of experience at the department, is an expert in school finance, and understands policy and the legislative process like few others in state government,” Bowen said.
