Deputy Chief Jared Mills of the Augusta Police Department said investigators were pursuing leads in the pair of hold-ups. A pharmacy inside the Civic Center Drive Walmart was robbed Monday and the Capitol Street CVS was robbed Wednesday.

"The Criminal Investigation Division has interviewed several witnesses and have identified possible suspects, but there is nothing concrete yet," Mills said Thursday.

Wednesday's pharmacy robbery was the third this month and ninth in Augusta this year. There have been 53 pharmacy robberies statewide this year, more than double last year's record high of 24.

The CVS robbery occurred around 3 p.m. Wednesday when a man handed a pharmacy employee a threatening note demanding prescription medication. The man was described as skinny and about 5 feet, 6 inches tall; and wearing tan khaki pants, white sneakers, black gloves, a dark sweatshirt with a hood and a dark ski-type mask.

The robbery happened about 48 hours after a man fled the Walmart pharmacy with an unspecified amount of oxycodone after handing a employee a note claiming he had a weapon. The man was said to be in his early 20s, about 6 feet tall with a slim build, weighing between 140 and 160 pounds. He was wearing a dark jacket, blue jeans, dark boots and had a light blue baseball cap with "FBI" in white letters across the front. He also was described as being clean-shaven and having an acne-scarred face and yellow teeth.

The Capitol Street CVS also was robbed Nov. 17 and June 18.

No weapon was apparent in any of the robberies and no injuries were reported.
