PITTSFIELD — Police continue to search for the man who attempted to rob the pharmacy at Rite Aid Tuesday morning.

“We’re doing our best to follow all leads right now,” said Officer Greg Sides. He said there is no suspect in the case.

Kathy Underwood, 56, assistant manager at the Rite Aid said the store was running as normal Wednesday morning.

“Everybody that works here is just more aware of what’s going on,” she said. “We’re paying more attention to who’s going in and out.”

Tuesday’s attempted robbery was the third demand for drugs at the store in the last 11 months. Prescription drugs were taken in robberies Oct. 19 and May 3. Police are still investigating those cases.

The investigation also continues into two Rite Aid pharmacy robberies in Newport during the last six weeks.

“We haven’t arrested anyone yet, but we have some things we’re working on,” said Newport Police Chief Leonard Macdaid. “I don’t want to say we have a lead, but we are hoping in the near future to have some results.”

He said that people almost always come forward with information when a reward has been posted, which Rite Aid did after its Newport pharmacy was robbed on Sept. 16. The company is offering $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in that case.

The company’s store at the intersection of Route 100 and U.S. Route 2 was also robbed of prescription drugs on Aug. 16, but no reward has been offered in that case.

Eric Harkreader, a spokesman for Rite Aid, said it has yet to be determined if a reward will be offered for information in the most recent Pittsfield case.

“We work closely with the police to determine both if and when a reward is posted,” he said.

A man wearing a bandanna with a flame print, sunglasses and camoflage-print pants attempted to rob the Pittsfield store just off Interstate 95 Tuesday morning, but a pharmacist refused the man drugs and he walked out.

The would-be robber had handed a note to a pharmacy clerk that read “I have a gun and I want drugs.”
