OAKLAND — Police are investigating the break-in of 26 storage units on Rice Rips Road early Thursday morning.
The crime is the biggest yet in a series of storage unit burglaries in the region, according to police Capt. Rick Stubbert.
“It’s been a problem in the area, not just in Oakland,” Stubbert said. “We’ve had four incidents in Oakland alone over the past six months.”
Police logs show reported burglaries at storage businesses in Oakland, Sidney and Wayne this year.
The burglars broke into the units at Thompson and Hachey Storage Units and left sometime before 4:30 a.m., when the crime was discovered, Stubbert said.
He said police are still contacting the victims and working to compile a complete list of items stolen.
“There are some big-ticket items,” Stubbert said. “They took a lot of merchandise, like tools and television sets.”
He asked that anyone with information about the burglaries to call the police at 465-2202.
