NEWPORT -- A 17-year-old faces charges that he sold marijuana to students at Nokomis Regional High School and at his workplace, police said Tuesday.

The juvenile, who police won't identify because he's under the age of 18, lives in Hartland and was summonsed on charges of trafficking drugs, possessing drug paraphernalia and possessing alcohol as a minor.

The teenager is enrolled as a student at Nokomis, but no longer attends classes at the school, according to Newport Cpl. David Wintle, who is also the school resource officer. Wintle said police had been investigating the case for a month and a half and had recently obtained a search warrant.

Friday night, at about 10 p.m., officers pulled the teenager over in his car on Main Street after he had left work, Wintle said.

Inside the vehicle, officers said they found $400 cash, nearly an ounce of marijuana, plastic bags and a scale, alcohol and drug paraphernalia, Wintle said. After being summonsed he was released into the custody of his parents. Officer Christopher McCrillis assisted at the scene.

"We're putting a dent in the (drug) distribution to other high school students," Wintle said. "As school-resource officer, that's my concern."

This drug pusher in school should get some serious time in jail even if he is 17. Laws are laws and you don't push drugs around a school. let alone in school. Maine justice is another story though!
