JAY — Thomas White of Jay has announced that he is a Republican candidate for sheriff in Franklin County.

White, 60, a deputy sheriff for 25 years, is a detective in the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.

White said as the next sheriff he would be involved in law enforcement issues as well as the social problems that contribute to crime, according to a news release about his candidacy.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the New England Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association, an annual delegate to the National Narcotic Officers Coalition and has written several articles that have been published in professional publications.

He is also past president of the Wilton Lions Club and Franklin County Deputies Association, and is a board member of the Franklin County Agriculture Society.

He is a South Portland High School graduate and attended Southern Maine Technical College.

White lives in Jay with his wife, Lisa. They have four sons and one granddaughter.
