Robber flees Augusta CVS after getting drugs

Man flees with oxycodone pills; no one injured, no weapon shown, police say

AUGUSTA -- A lone robber held up the CVS Pharmacy on Capitol Street shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday and then fled on foot.

Augusta and Maine State Police and a police dog searched the surrounding area looking for a suspect described as aged 25 to 35, 130-165 pounds, with a short scruffy beard, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark pants as well as dark face paint, a black hat and camouflage gloves.

The suspect reportedly headed east from the pharmacy and was tracked to a nearby parking lot where police said it appeared he got into a vehicle and fled.

A statement from Augusta Police Lt. Christopher Massey said the robber threatened an employee at the pharmacy counter "and as a result of the threat was given Oxycodone pills."

No weapon was displayed and no one was injured, police said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call police at 626-2370. The Capitol Street CVS also was robbed May 8, and two men have been charged in that holdup.

Less than a month ago, a robber at the Rite Aid Pharmacy on North Belfast Avenue barricaded himself in the store's bathroom while allegedly shooting up the drugs he had stolen.

Nineteen-year-old Dylan Karczweski of Augusta is accused in that robbery and remains behind bars in Kennebec County jail.
