STRONG -- Town elections will be held Friday, and town meeting Saturday.
Elections are Friday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Forster Memorial Building.
Incumbent selectmen Milton Baston and James Burrill are facing challenges by Rupert Pratt and Robert Boyd. Town clerk Lois Barker is unopposed for re-election. Duayne Boyd is unopposed for fire chief.
A citizen-generated article submitted by selectman Burrill will ask voters to pay $5,000 for a recently retired highway worker's health insurance.
The annual town meeting will convene at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, also at the Forster Memorial Building. For more information, call Sandra Mitchell at 684-4002.
The proposed for $552,000 budget represents a 5 percent increase over the $525,500 budget approved in 2009. Insurance costs have increased by 8 percent, and the town's share of the School Administrative District 58 budget is expected to increase by $218,000, according to Baston, board chairman.
