STAFF REPORT
WALES -- A hunter was killed Tuesday when he was shot off East Road, according to the Maine Warden Service.
Police and rescue were called to the town just south of Monmouth around 4:19 p.m. Tuesday.
Immediate radio dispatch reports were that the hunter had been shot in the jugular vein, which is in the neck, and that life-saving efforts were under way. Cpl. John McDonald of the Maine Warden Service confirmed later Tuesday that the man was dead.
The Warden Service was not releasing further details of the shooting Tuesday night.
East Road, old Route 126, is off Route 126 near the Monmouth town line.
