DEXTER — Allen A. Ross, 77, known to everybody as Al, died peacefully in his sleep at home on March 10, 2013.

Al was born June 22, 1935, in Lewiston, the son of Leon and Mary (Corson) Ross. From the age of seven, he was raised by his uncle and aunt, Clifford and Hilda Corson.

He graduated from Bloomfield Academy in Skowhegan in 1954, he then attended Farmington Teachers College until 1956 and graduated from UMO in 1958 with a BA and an MA in School Administration. He went on to be an educator in Milo, Winterport and Dexter, retiring in 1995.

Al was a man of many talents: He was a police officer, deputy sheriff, bus driver, carpenter, state of Maine court mediator, negotiator and school board member. Al was an avid hobbyist which included woodworking, wood turning, gardening and painting. Because Al was a man of a giving nature, he made and donated many of his works for various charities and organizations for fundraising.

Al was the first man to take the victims response course for Womancare at the time he was an active board member. He was a member of the Piscataquis Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 44 in Milo and a member of the Anaheim Temple Shrine, a member of the CADRES, a former member of the Dexter Kiwanis, and a member of the Dexter Christian Community Church. He was the host organizer of the Center Pond Quake Society and the No. 1 of the Robinson’s 3 A’s coffee club.

Al is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Amelda Gregory (Amy) Ross, his daughter, Lisa and husband, Jeremy Leal, and children Zachary and Mackie, son, Allen and his children, Cameron and Emmitt. Al was predeceased by his daughter, Kathryn and survived by her children, Kristi and Sonja Hall. He is survived by two sisters, Gwen Ash of Cairo, N.Y., and Lavina Ross of Newport, a sister in law and husband, Gloria and Ron Bridges of Enfield, Conn.
