It’s clear who legislators do, do not represent

A page B5 article in the Jan. 15 newspaper discloses that a legislative committee advanced a measure to grant the state’s judges a pay raise. The raise will increase judges’ pay, by steps, from a bottom of the scale of $115,346 to a high of $157,475.

Maine median household income for 2012 was $46,709. (www.census.gov/prod/2013pubs/acsbr12-02.pdf)

The average Maine state retiree’s pension is $20,856. (www.maineopengov.org)

The Legislature removed from all state retirees the Cost Of Living Adjustment, which had been in effect for about 37 years. It was a part of retirement calculations made by state employees.

It is clear just who is and is not represented by our elected representatives.
