Loraine LeBlanc’s letter to the editor (Aug. 21), stated that Time Warner Cable Company abruptly removed EWTN from the basic cable programming package.
EWTN is a global Catholic station that promotes the love of God and love for our neighbors in our daily living. It is a great relief over other channels that promote immoral and hateful behavior.
Cable television removed the broadcasting of the local Catholic Mass a few years ago.
Since then, EWTN has provided wholesome family viewing of religious programs for the elderly and shut-ins as part of the basic package. This has been a tremendous value for those of limited, or fixed, incomes.
Time Warner Cable would be considered to be a good neighbor to its limited income viewers by allowing them to continue viewing EWTN as part of the basic cable television package.
The Knights of Columbus (part of a worldwide Catholic family service organization) of the Kennebec Valley area are circulating a petition to encourage Time Warner Cable Company to reinstate EWTN as part of the basic package. This petition is being circulated among the general public, and not just among the Catholic community. It is hoped that public opinion will prevail over the apparent pursuit of higher profits (for Time Warner).
