Not a Maine native, but loves this awesome state

LETTER

I live in a wonderful assisted living home here in Gardiner. I’m sure there are many throughout this awesome state of Maine.

I wasn’t born here, but I was only 3 months old when I first came. Then, when I was 3 years old, I came with my mother, first to Caribou to visit my mother’s uncle John, then somewhere in Aroostook County on a farm John owned but his brother Sandy ran and lived with a very large family.

We spent all winter there it was so great. My dad drove up and got us. Then, as each child graduated from high school, they would come to Massachusetts to stay with us. Some moved on to Rhode Island where more relatives lived. A few married and came back here.

All in all, there is no place like Maine.

Now a very important word about this home of mine. The people here work very hard. They are dedicated, underpaid and understaffed, yet this doesn’t stop the kindness and care we get from them. They need and deserve to be rewarded in many ways.
