Adults set bad example when using cells, driving

One of the major issues regarding our young people today is the use of cell phones and texting while driving.

Do we not have a law against the use of cell phones while driving? We should, if we do not. I find it disheartening that as I drive from my home to the walk path in Brunswick, I see on a daily basis cars with the drivers talking on their cells and they are not teenagers. The drivers are adults with children riding in the passenger seats.

How can we expect our young people to obey laws when their parents break them right in front of them.

What most people fail to recognize is the danger that driving and cell phones entail. Kids are dying in car accidents while texting, and sometimes their accidents take other innocent lives. How many lives does it take before people wake up to the dangers?

I used to think that the worse thing I could see was the driver beside me traveling at 65 miles per hour while reading the newspaper! I was wrong. Cell phones are far more dangerous.

Is it time to have mandatory retesting for drivers licenses? Or possibly safety classes when people renew their licenses? How do we get people to obey laws, do the right thing and save lives?
