Buying land should be at bottom of priority list

Letter to the Editor

After reading George Smith's column ("Governor still rebuffing citizens' desire to conserve precious land," Jan. 16), I decided Smith has been so busy writing stuff like this that he hasn't had time to read the paper.

We, as a state and country, are broke. We are taking food from poor people, we are taking medications from the elderly, we can't pay our hospital bill, roads and schools are losing money from the state.

Buying land is and should be on the bottom of our list of priorities. This may be the only thing that I can agree with our governor about.

Smith is a good writer but a poor judge of what the state of Maine needs. When these bonds were voted on by the people, we were not fully aware of the state of our finances.
