Collins part of the problem in Washington

As you noted in your article on Susan Collins ("Growing Influence," Aug. 29), she could have single-handedly prevented the 2009 stimulus bill from passing, but chose to support it instead, and is proud to have done so. Maine's piece of the stimulus pie was almost a billion dollars, or 0.1 percent (that's one tenth of one percent) of the total.

Even if we could accept the Obama and Baldacci administration -- very liberal estimates of 6,000 Maine jobs "saved or created," simple math shows Maine stimulus cost us $164,000 per job!

And since we didn't have that money to spend, we just put it on our credit card and repayment will be handled by our children and grandchildren. Isn't it great to see how entrenched Washington politicians can spend our money?

There should be no question as to why working Americans have had it with the current crop of politicians and are voting for candidates with common sense fiscally conservative values. Unfortunately, Collins is part of the problem that needs correcting.
