Gun tax not best option to prevent shootings

Letter to the Editor

The president told the nation that gun control is a complex issue. I certainly agree with him.

The country already has thousands of collectors whom are licensed to own machine guns, grenades etc. (They pay a tax to do this.)

Is it going to do any good to force the owners of the 3 million-plus assault rifles to pay a tax to keep the guns they already own, considering the killer in Sandy Hook used a firearm owned by his mother in the first place?

This nation is flooded with firearms and there are no easy answers to this crime. As gun owners, we're all sickened by this man's act upon our children.

The public needs to remember, that when seconds count, the police are only minutes away. I don't believe teachers should carry in school, but a gun safe that recognizes fingerprints may be a option in some schools.
