Muzzle velocity, not shape of bullet, causes damage

Letter to the Editor

John Madden, in his letter published on March 6, wrote that the shape of the bullet causes the damage in the shootings. He is wrong.

The damage is done because of the muzzle velocity of the weapon and not the shape of the bullet.

During my basic training, I saw the difference between the various weapons, and the most damage was done with the AR15 with a muzzle velocity of 3,200 ft/sec with a 225-caliber bullet as opposed to a military 45-caliber at 750 ft/sec.
