Whatever one's feelings about the war in Afghanistan, surely there is agreement that the release of classified documents containing the names of Afghans who have risked their lives to help rid their land of the Taliban is an incredibly irresponsible, even criminal act that has endangered the lives of thousands of brave people.
Julian Assange is head of WikiLeaks, the organization (proudly) responsible for the release of 76,000 classified war documents concerning the Afghan war. He plans to release 15,000 more.
Not surprisingly, the documents have drawn the attention of the Taliban, the organization (proudly) responsible for the disfiguring of the young woman on the cover of Time magazine of Aug. 9 and reprinted on your editorial page. It's probably just a matter of time before they send Assange a note of thanks for making their bloody work that much simpler.
The cover of Time Magazine shows how the Taliban deals with people in Afghanistan who oppose them. Thanks to Assange, there will be the slaughter of many more people who risked their lives -- and trusted this country -- to help rid their country of the scourge of the Taliban.
Their blood is on his hands.
