On Feb. 3, I contacted the Waterville Police Department to report a woman who was smoking in her car with a young child in the back seat. I approached her on my way to a store to tell her about the law and her violation. She said she did not care and would pay a fine if an officer gave her one. What?
The children are the future, and if we as adults continue to subject them to ignorance and abuse, how will the cycle ever be broken?
Is it my responsibility as a law-abiding, caring, aware individual to report abuse when I see it? I believe it is, and, when I do, it would be nice to see my efforts being supported.
More education and awareness is necessary to make positive change. I hope others join in my effort.
