Letter to the Editor

Mankind is addicted to delusions; we cherish and defend them to the death.

God gave Joshua a hand and made the sun and moon stand still, Jonah lived in the belly of a big fish for three days, the economy will recover.

A society is a living, breathing, thinking organism that, like all organisms, has a life history: youth, vigor, old age, death.

Money transfusions, of trillions, perhaps even quadrillions, of dollars can provide the euphoria of recovery, but reality will be unaffected.

Having said that I am aware that the defenders of the faith will denounce me as a heretic, but even as they do, the society will grow ever older and more feeble. What will be will be.
