Jean Ann Pollard, author of ‘The New Maine Cooking’

Local author/artist Jean Ann Pollard will give a book talk and read from her works on cooking with local foods, as well as the hilarious chaos of parenting at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29 at the Winslow Public Library. 

Pollard was born in Waterville and grew up in Winslow. She graduated from Boston University and later studied at Colby College. In addition to her six published books, her artwork has been exhibited, she has illustrated books, articles and stories, and her short stories, poetry and non-fiction have appeared in many publications, according to a news release.

Pollard and her husband ran an organically certified CSA (community-supported agriculture) program for 10 years in Winslow.

Signed copies of her newly re-issued book “The New Maine Cooking,” long considered a classic work on healthy Maine cooking, will be available to purchase The library is located at 136 Halifax St. in Winslow. For more information, call 872-1978.

Jeffrey Wells and Allison Child Wells, authors of ‘Maine’s Favorite Birds’

Jeffrey Wells and Allison Child Wells, native Mainers, lifelong birders and associates of the Cornell Ornithology Lab, will talk about the lives and habits of the birds we enjoy in our backyards, parks, coasts, wild areas and nature preserves, as stated in a news release.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase, courtesy of the Children’s Book Cellar.
The event will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec.4, in the Colby Room at the Waterville Public Library, located at 73 Elm St. This program is free and open to the public. For more information, please call 680-2603.
