WATERVILLE — Thomas College (9-8, 4-2 NAC) and the University of Maine at Farmington (5-5, 3-3 NAC) split their double header Friday afternoon. The Beavers took the opener 5-3, while the Terriers bounced back to grab the nightcap 6-2.

A homerun from Messalonskee grad Alyssa Eugley and RBI singles from Lauren Hachey, also a graduate of Messalonskee, and Mary Ortiz gave the Terriers an early 3-1 lead, but it would not last. UMF tied the game in the top of the fourth, and scored one run each in the fifth and seventh to grab the win. Cony graduate Emily Soule got the win for Beavers and Shelby Bryant finished 3-for-4 at the plate, while Eugley and Sidney’s Courtney Veilleux each finished 2-for-4 for Thomas.

The finale proved to be all Terriers though, as they scored a pair of runs in the first inning and never looked back. Faith Robinson got the win for Thomas in a six-strikeout, complete-game performance.

Thomas will have another doubleheader today beginning at 2 p.m. when it hosts Lyndon State College, while UMF will have a double header as well against Maine Maritime beginning at noon.

THOMAS 7-5, NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE 3-4: Thomas (5-20, 4-8 NEC) came away winless in a pair of tries against New England College.

The Terriers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener when Nik Beeson scored on a double from Waterville’s Tim Locke, but NEC answered with a five-run fourth inning to take control of the contest.

The second game played out the opposite of the first, as Thomas fell behind 4-1 early only to tie the game with three runs in the fourth. Unfortunately for the Terriers, an error in the top of the ninth allowed the Pilgrims to score the go-ahead run and secure the win. Former Lawrence standout Isiah Fleming was saddled with the loss despite throwing five strong innings of relief.

The two teams will do it again today as Thomas and NEC will meet back at Ryan Field for another doubleheader beginning at noon.
