KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia — Julia Dujmovits of Austria inched past Germany’s Anke Karstens at the finish to win gold in women’s snowboarding parallel slalom on Saturday.

Dujmovits trailed Karstens by 0.74 seconds heading into the second of the two final heats. Dujmovits nearly lost her edge twice during her last run, but kept her balance and tracked down Karstens.

Amelie Kober of Germany won bronze in the sport’s Olympic debut.

Parallel giant slalom champion Patrizia Kummer did not make it out of the first round of elimination. Neither did bronze medalist Alena Zavarzina, whose husband Vic Wild won gold in both the parallel giant slalom and parallel slalom.
