AUGUSTA — Led by a fourth-place finish by sophomore Austin Landry, the Maranacook boys easily won the KVAC B title Saturday morning at Cony High School.

Maranacook finished with 57 points, 32 points in front of runner-up Winslow.

“We thought we were going to win, but we didn’t want to get our hopes up too much because a team could bust and come out and win it,” Landry said. “We went out strong and did pretty well.”

Ben Trapani of Camden Hills outkicked Gardiner’s Christian Heath to win the individual Class B title by five tenths of a second with a time of 17 minutes, 9.08 seconds.

“I had the lead until that last bit and I was just trying to hold on,” Heath said, “but he caught me at the end. My legs were giving out at the end. I gave it all I had.”

Bethanie Brown, a senior at Waterville, easily won her second straight KVAC B title, beating Camden Hill’s Brittany Bowman by a little over a minute with a time of 18:59.4.

Brown helped the Waterville girls to a second-place finish. The Panthers finished with 55 points, behind KVAC B champ Camden Hills (31). Maranacook was third with 73 points, followed by Winslow (106) and Morse (129).
