ELLSWORTH — The Maine Central Institute football team continued its strong start to the season with a convincing 56-18 victory over Ellsworth/Sumner in an Eastern D game Friday night.

Jonathan Santiago paced the Huskies (3-0) with three rushing touchdowns a week after scoring four in a victory over Stearns.

Santiago also returned a punt for a touchdown.

Alex Bertrans rushed for a pair of touchdowns as well for MCI.

Hampden 32, Skowhegan 26: With the teams tied 26-26 and under a minute to play, the Broncos grabbed victory on an interception that was returned for a touchdown.

Adam Clukey completed 14 of 22 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns and the interception for Skowhegan (2-1).

Ben Salley had four catches for 52 yards and a score while Kaleb Brown rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries for the Indians as well.

Hampden improved to 2-1.

Morse 28, Gardiner 8: Liam McDonough rushed for 188 yards and a touchdown to lead the Shipbuilders in a Class B game at McMann Field.

James Laser rushed for a pair of touchdowns, both from 7 yards out, as Morse improved to 2-1.

Brad Weston rushed for a 12-yard touchdown and a 2-point conversion to lead the Tigers (0-3).

Matt Belanger also threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Casey Watson in the third quarter for Morse.

Mt. View 42, John Bapst 27: The Mustangs scored all their points in the first half, then hung on for the Eastern Class D win in Bangor.

Steven Davis scored three touchdowns and rushed for 100 yards while Jack Axsom added a score and also went over 100 yards. Quarterback kenny McCray threw touchdown passes to Tyler Ripley and Trevor Saucier.

Mt. View is  2-1, John Bapst is 1-2.
