WATERVILLE — Tommy Sampson scored with a minute left in overtime, lifting the Waterville boys soccer team to a 3-2 win over Caribou in the Eastern B quarterfinals.
No. 8 Waterville (9-4-2) will play at No. 1 Ellsworth on Wednesday. No. 9 Caribou ends the season at 6-8-1.
Sampson’s game-winning shot hit the bottom of the crossbar and came down into the back of the net. Zack Disch assisted on the goal.
Caribou led 2-1 at the half on goals by Kameron Manter and Matthew Milliard. Christian Rustad scored for Waterville in the first half. Waterville had a goal waved off at the end of the half, when it was ruled the ball had not crossed the goal line before time expired. With 14 minutes left in the game, Sampson scored with an assist from Disch to tie the game.
Liam Edwards made 10 saves for Waterville. Matthew Manter made 22 stops for Caribou.
No. 7 Erskine 2, No. 10 Hermon 1, OT: Gage Currie scored 9 seconds into the first overtime to lift the Eagles to the East B prelim win in South China.
Currie got a touch on the opening kickoff in overtime, then the ball bounced off a defender to teammate Joe York, who fed Currie cutting toward the goal. The Hawks scored the first goal midway through the second half on Hunter Clukey’s unassisted score.
Currie tied the game three minutes later when his free kick deflected off the goalie’s hands.
Erskine’s Jared Gartley made four saves. Erskine (12-3-0) meets No. 2 Camden Hills in a quarterfinal Wednesday in Rockport while Hermon finishes at 4-10-1.
No. 5 Old Town 3, No. 12 Mt. View 0: Tyler Gifford scored a pair of goals to lead the Coyotes to the East B prelim win in Old Town. CJ Moody added a goal for the winners. Mikey Hustus made six saves on 14 shots for Mt. View (5-8-2) while Austin Sheehan made seven saves on 13 shots for Old Town (9-5-1).
