OAKLAND —Jordon Holmes made a layup with under 30 seconds remaining as the Messalonskee boys basketball team beat Bangor 69-67 in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A game Friday afternoon.

Holmes finished with 23 points and five assists for Messalonskee, which improves to 4-1. Nick Mayo added 14 points and 18 rebounds for the Eagles, while Justin Carson had 10 points.

Xavier Lewis had 23 points, including 12 from the free-throw line, for Bangor (3-2). Alex Campbell added 14 points and Garrett Johnson 11. Connor Adams also had 10.

Carrabec 58, Mountain Valley 46: Boog Dunphyn scored 17 points as the Cobras beat the Falcons in an MVC game in Rumford.

Richard Layton added 13 points, while Levi Murray added 11 for Carrabec (1-4).

Ryley Flynn had 15 points and Caleb Gauvin 10 for Mountain Valley (1-5).

MORSE 50, WATERVILLE 49; Jacob Freeman’s 3-pointer with 23 seconds left lifted the Shipbuilder to the KVAC B win in Waterville.

Chris Hale led Waterville (3-3) with 17 points and 15 rebounds while Ethan Winglass paced Morse (6-0) with 16 points.

Girls basketball

Messalonskee 43, Bangor 39: Sophie Holmes had 15 points and four rebounds as the Eagles beat the Rams in a KVAC A game in Bangor.

Mikayla Turner added 11 poitns, eight rebounds and four steals for Messalonskee (4-2).

Katie Butler had 12 points and Mary Butler 10 for Bangor (2-3).

Lisbon 36, Mt. Abram 4: Mia Durgin scored eight points as the Greyhounds beat the Roadrunners in an MVC game in Salem.

Lisbon is now 1-4, while Mt. Abram falls to 1-6.

WATERVILLE 40, MORSE 39 OT: Christine O’Donnell tied the game in regulation with a pair of free throws and won it with a free throw in overtime after stealing the ball to lead the Purple Panthers to the KVAC win in Waterville.

The Panthers (3-3) trailed by three with 10 seconds left in overtime but Fotini Shantos tied it for Waterville with a 3-pointer. O’Donnell stole the inbounds pass and was fouled with .08 left to play.

O’Donnell finished with 22 points for Waterville (3-3) while Emma Harrington led Morse (1-5) with 15.
