SOUTH PARIS — Mikayla Toth and Kaitlin Theriault each went 5 for 5 as the Skowhegan softball team rolled to a 21-2 victory over Oxford Hills in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A opener for both teams Wednesday.

The Indians pounded out 25 hits.

Skowhegan (1-0) scored 10 runs in the fifth inning. Toth (three RBI), Andrea Quirion, Theriault (four RBI), Morgan Buker and Mattea Powers each homered for Skowhegan.

Anna Winslow homered for Oxford Hills (0-1).

Cony 11, Mt. Blue 0: Arika Brochu pitched a one-hit shutout as the Rams rolled to the KVAC A win in Farmington.

Cony (1-0) scored all of its runs in the first four innings. Olivia Deeves singled twice for the Rams. Brochu struck out 10 and walked two in the win.

Mt. Blue is 0-1.

BASEBALL

GARDINER 2, ERSKINE 1: Josh McKelvey allowed four hits and struck out 10 to lead Gardiner in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B baseball opener for both teams.

McKelvey allowed one walk as he and Erskine senior Jared Gartley hooked uo in a pitchers’ duel. Gartley allowed four hits, fanned six and walked three before giving way to Ryan Rodrigue who struck out four.

After scoring an unearned run in the first inning, the Tigers strung together four singles to add a second run in the third. Josh Farrin singled followed by hits from Logan Peacock, Nick Berube and Brad Weston, the latter driving in a run. The Eagles scored in the bottom of the third when Nate Martin singled, stole second and came home on a base hit form Zach Childs.

MONMOUTH 8, WINTHROP 0: The Mustangs parlayed 10 hits into three big innings en route to the Mountain Valley Conference win in Monmouth.

Kyle Fletcher led the winners with two singles, a double and two RBIs while Alex Curtis also drove in two runs with a single and double and Hunter Richardson added two singles. Starter Nate Gagne picked up the pitching win with relief from Fletcher and D.J. McHugh while Ben Allen took the loss.

MORSE 8, MARANACOOK 3: Leading 3-2, the Shipbuilders broke the game open with five runs in the seventh to secure the KVAC B win in Readfield.

Zack Holbrook doubled twice for Morse (1-0), and Trenton Moore was the winning pitcher.

Bam Brochu and Vinnie Birtwell each singled twice for Maranacook (0-1). Brochu also drove in two runs.
