ORONO — Justin Edwards scored 27 points, grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the University of Maine men's basketball team to an 84-78 win over Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday afternoon at the Alfond Arena.
Maine is now 4-8 on the year while FGCU falls to 8-5.
With the Black Bears clinging to a 71-69 lead with 2:44 left, Edwards converted a layup and stole the ball on the ensuing FGCU possession. Xavier Pollard then connected on a three-pointer to give Maine a seven point lead.
The Eagles got within 76-72 with 48 seconds left and 78-74 with 40 seconds left, but Edwards' dunk with 30 seconds remaining sealed the win for Maine.
Brett Comer led Florida Gulf Coast with 14 points and eight assists.
