LOCAL ROUNDUP: Erskine gets hot in 4th and gets win

Staff Report

SOUTH CHINA — Erskine Academy scored 18 points in the fourth quarter to pull away from Mt. Ararat and earn a 57-46 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A boys basketball victory Monday.

Shyler Scates finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds for Erskine (6-8). Teammate Tom Grady added 17 points.

Josh Wright had 13 points for Mt. Ararat (1-13).

Madison 62, Monmouth 32: Austin Kane scored 17 points, including five 3-pointers, as the Bulldogs beat the Mustangs in an Mountain Valley Conference game in Monmouth.

Steven Lawrence added 10 points for Madison (8-7).

Valley 59, Vinalhaven 56: Trailing by nine points with 1:28 to play, the Cavaliers rallied and won the game with a Carrington Miller 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Trailing by nine, Caleb Wade hit back-to-back 3-pointers to bring the Cavaliers (11-4) within three. Miller then hit a 3-pointer to tie the game before ending it with a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Miller finished with 30 points and 11 rebounds. He hit seven 3-pointers, including four in the third quarter. Wade added 12 points and six assists.

Girls basketball

Mt. Abram 47, Lisbon 35: Miranda Smith scored 16 points and Annie Dexter added 10 to lead the Roadrunners in an MVC game in Lisbon. Mikayla Luce added nine points for Mt. Abram (8-7).

Alex Harmond scored 13 points and Denise Thomas added nine for the Greyhounds (5-10).

Mt. Ararat 56, Erskine 45: Caitlin LaFountain scored a game-high 16 points and Chelsea Crawford added 11 to lead Mt. Ararat in an Eastern A game in Topsham.

Mallory Nelson added 10 points for Mt. Ararat (9-5).

Meryl Bond scored 14 points and Bridget Humphrey added 12 for Erskine (2-12).

Mountain Valley 61, Carrabec 37: Ayla Allen scored 24 points and Brooke Dollof added 17 to lead Mountain Valley (10-5).

Jocelyn Jackson scored 13 points and Emma Pluntke added 12 for Carrabec (3-11).

Boys hockey

Presque Isle 9, Lawrence 2:
Connor Shaw and Tyler Seeley each scored two goals to lead the Wildcats (8-5-0) in an Eastern B game.

Andrew Carpenter and Christian Carpenter scored the lone goals for Lawrence (2-8-1).

Messalonskee 7, Old Town 2: Sam Dexter scored three goals and Nate DelGiudice stoped 21 shots to lead the Eagles (10-2-0) in an Eastern B game in the Alfond Arena.

Women’s basketball

UM-Augusta 60, College of St. Joseph’s 51: Jenn Lola had 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Moose won in Concord, N.H.

Ashley Peaslee added 17 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals for UMA (14-8). Katie Poirier chipped in with 15 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
