LOCAL COLLEGE ROUNDUP: Johnson leads UMF to win

Maranacook graduate sparks men’s basketball team past MMA

CASTINE —Maranacook Community School graduate Ben Johnson scored 23 points as the University of Maine at Farmington men’s basketball team beat Maine Maritime Academy 63-45 on Tuesday night.

Nate Carson added 10 points for UMF, which improves to 3-2.

Tyler Chaisson had 11 points for MMA (0-5).

Husson 89, Thomas 62: Eric Westbrooks scored 16 points for the Terriers in a losing effort to the Eagles in Bangor.

Levi Barnes and Garen Manzo each added 13 points for Thomas (0-4).

Brooks Spaulding scored a game-high 23 points for Husson (5-0). Jacob Moore scored 11 points and Aaron Willis added 10 points for the Eagles.

Women’s basketball

Husson 64, Thomas 34: Elizabeth Goodall scored a team-high 11 points, and Emilee Reynolds added 10 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Terriers, who fell to the Eagles in Bangor.

Katie McAllister and Lexi Merrifield each scored five points for Thomas (0-6).

Victoria McIntyre had a game-high 12 points for Husson (2-1). Chandler Guerrette added 11 points.
