Monmouth’s Dylan Thombs won the boys freestyle race, nipping Katahdin’s Daniel Streinz by just over two seconds. On Wednesday, Streinz edged Thombs in the class race.

“It was really intense,” Monmouth coach Chris Bryant said of the boys race. “Classic is not one of his better events. He knew it was his last chance, he just wanted to put it all out there. He had an early jump and he held on.”

Thombs, a senior, battled shin problems last season and finished eighth in the freestyle race.
