SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — Chris Davis hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to lead the Baltimore Orioles to their fifth straight win to start spring training, 5-3 over the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night.
It's the first time Baltimore, which was using a split-squad against the Red Sox, has won its first five in spring since 2001.
Chris Tillman allowed a hit and two walks in 1 2-3 innings for the Orioles.
Boston brought most of its regulars, but third baseman Will Middlebrooks had a scary moment in the first inning when he appeared to injure his right wrist after swinging at a pitch from Tillman. Middlebrooks, who broke the wrist last Aug. 10, left the game, but said it was a precaution and that he was fine.
