McLemore tops 1,000 points; Maine beats Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Gerald McLemore scored 14 points, including his 1,000th career point, to lead Maine to a 72-58 win over Vermont on Tuesday night.

Raheem Singleton and Troy Barnies added 14 apiece for the Black Bears (11-7, 5-1 America East Conference), who never trailed in winning their fourth straight game.

With the score tied at 7, Maine went on a 10-2 run and led 37-28 at the half.

Vermont (12-5, 3-2), which came in having won five of its last six games, opened the second half with a 9-2 spurt, capped by a Matt Glass 3-pointer, to trim the gap to 39-37.

Singleton made a layup and Andrew Rogers a 3-pointer to restore a seven-point Black Bears cushion.

Vermont, led by Evan Fjeld's 18 points, could get no closer than nine points in the final 4 minutes.

McLemore reached his 1,000th career point on the first of two free throws with 5:53 left and now has 1,003.
